I've read most of Evan Hunter's work, as well as his Ed McBain police potboilers, from "The Blackboard Jungle" on, but a lot of them were never re-printed. Fortunately I just came across "A Matter of Conviction" (1959) about a gang killing and prosecuting the murder. Fabulous stuff...These hoodlums from Italian Harlem (Yeah, I heard of Spanish & Black Harlem, but never Italian) tell the police lieutenant that they were defending themselves when a boy attacked them with a switchblade as they were on his turf, that's how he was killed...and then the lieutenant says, "But Rafael was blind" And it gets better...why this gem was never re-printed is a mystery.
